City Make a Statement at Anfield
The headline result came on Sunday evening. Liverpool held Manchester City for an hour until Ryan Gravenberch was sent off for a second yellow card on 62 minutes. City then scored three times in 13 minutes through Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki to win 3-0 and make it six wins from six. It was also City's fourth straight win over Liverpool.
Arsenal Keep Pace, Brighton Climb
Arsenal opened the weekend with a 2-1 home win over Leeds United to stay three points behind City in second place. Brighton continued their excellent start with a 2-0 win at Sunderland, moving to 13 points and holding on to third.
Chelsea Run Riot Against Bournemouth
The biggest scoreline of the weekend came at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea beat Bournemouth 5-1. The win lifts Chelsea to 10 points, while Bournemouth remain without a league win after six matches and sit near the bottom of the table.
Draws for Brentford, Everton and United
Brentford came from Villa Park with a 2-2 draw, keeping them unbeaten after six games, although four of those have been draws. Everton are also still unbeaten after a 2-2 draw at Hull City, a result that keeps the newly promoted Tigers comfortable in mid-table.
At Old Trafford, Manchester United and Tottenham shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Neither side will be happy. United have just one league win this season, and Spurs are still waiting for their first.
Palace and Ipswich Pick Up Vital Wins
Crystal Palace beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 at Selhurst Park for only their second win of the season, pulling them away from the bottom three. Ipswich Town edged Fulham 2-1, a result that leaves Fulham bottom of the table and still searching for a first win.
Premier League Table: Top and Bottom
Ahead of Monday's match between Coventry and Newcastle, the top of the table looks like this:
- Manchester City – 18 points (6 played)
- Arsenal – 15 points (6 played)
- Brighton & Hove Albion – 13 points (6 played)
Brentford, Chelsea and Everton are next on 10 points each. At the other end, Fulham are bottom with two points, while Tottenham, Bournemouth and Coventry have three points each. Coventry can climb with a positive result on Monday.
