Gor Mahia's perfect start to the SportPesa Premier League continued on Saturday as Alpha Onyango's second-half goal sank Bandari 1-0 at Nyayo National Stadium. On a weekend of draws across Matchday 3, AFC Leopards were held 0-0 by Shabana after a missed penalty, while newcomers 3K FC finally tasted victory in the top flight.
Gor Mahia 1-0 Bandari: Onyango Keeps K'Ogalo Perfect
For more than an hour Bandari frustrated the champions. The first half at Nyayo ended goalless, and Charles Akonnor's side struggled to turn possession into clear openings against a well-organised coastal team.
The breakthrough came in the 69th minute. Ebenezer Assifuah, who had a big influence on the match, slipped a pass through the Bandari defence and Onyango finished from close range. Assifuah almost added a second late on, but his effort struck the crossbar in the 87th minute.
The win gives Gor Mahia nine points from three matches. They are the only side in the 18-team league to have won all of their opening fixtures, after a 4-2 win over Murang'a SEAL and a 1-0 victory away to APS Bomet.
Gor were four points clear of second-placed Mara Sugar after Saturday's games, with Mara Sugar held to a goalless draw by Ulinzi Stars. Bandari, meanwhile, remain without a win after three matches, having drawn with AFC Leopards and 3K FC before this defeat.
Why this start matters for Gor
This run is a strong response after a difficult few months. Gor Mahia's CAF Champions League campaign ended early in the qualifying rounds, and the delayed start to the season left the champions with long gaps between competitive matches. Winning tight games such as this one, without playing at their best, is the habit of title-winning teams.
AFC Leopards 0-0 Shabana: Ndzila Saves Kayci's Penalty
The weekend's biggest talking point came on Sunday. AFC Leopards were awarded a penalty in the 58th minute after Semo was brought down inside the box, but Shabana goalkeeper Pavel Ndzila guessed the right way and saved captain Kayci Odhiambo's spot kick.
Neither side found a way through after that, and the match finished goalless. For Leopards, who beat Kenya Police 2-1 earlier in the campaign, it is a missed chance to keep pace with Gor at the top. Ingwe will need to turn chances like this into wins if they want a serious title challenge this season.
For Shabana, a point away from home against one of the league's big names is a decent result, and Ndzila's save will give the Gusii side confidence ahead of the coming rounds.
3K FC Earn First Top-Flight Win in Embu
One of the stories of the weekend came from Embu Stadium, where 3K FC beat Murang'a SEAL 2-1 for their first ever win in the Kenyan top flight. Glen Githinji opened the scoring in the 24th minute and Oscar Juma doubled the lead ten minutes later.
Michael Owen pulled one back for Murang'a SEAL in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, but 3K held on through the second half. The newcomers had drawn their first two matches against Mara Sugar and Bandari, so they remain unbeaten in their debut Premier League season.
Late Drama in Bomet and a First Point for Mombasa United
At Police Sacco Stadium, APS Bomet were seconds from their first win of the season. Rodgers Kipkemoi headed them in front in the 29th minute, but substitute Michael Karamor equalised for Nairobi United in the 94th minute to make it 1-1. Both clubs are still waiting for their first win.
In Mombasa, league newcomers Mombasa United and Kenya Police played out a 0-0 draw at Mbaraki. It was Mombasa United's first ever point in the Kenyan Premier League, after they were promoted through the playoff with Kariobangi Sharks. Mombasa coach Abdulhamid Moallin told Citizen Digital that his side were "not clinical in the box" but believed the goals would come soon.
Kenya Police Still Winless After Coaching Change
The draw leaves Kenya Police with two points from three matches. Their season started with a 1-1 draw against Migori Youth and a 2-1 defeat to AFC Leopards, and on 21 October the club parted ways with head coach Nicholas Muyoti and his assistant John Baraza.
Muyoti had taken charge in January 2026 after working as assistant to Dusan Stojanovic. In its statement, the club said it had agreed to release the pair to advance their coaching qualifications, adding: "Soon it will be mandatory for only licensed CAF-A holders to steer Kenya Premier League Teams."
That line is worth noting for every club in the league. If the CAF A licence becomes a strict requirement for head coaches, more clubs could face the same choice between keeping a coach and letting him study. For Police, who have big ambitions, the priority now is a first league win.
Talking Points From Matchday 3
Three rounds in, the early table already tells a story. Gor Mahia are winning without being at their best, while their usual challengers are dropping points in draws. Goals were scarce across Matchday 3, which suggests many teams are still finding sharpness after the long delay to the start of the season.
The promoted clubs are also settling in. 3K FC are unbeaten and Mombasa United are off the mark, which should make the relegation battle harder to predict than many fans expected.
